Looking into the Community

Looking through the usc database, I found a few articles that would help me with the pathos side of my argument. Appealing to the emotional side of my argument, this article by Will Kaufman provides testimonies from real people who used to live in the Chavez Ravine. He uses an effective juxtaposition to the facts of the events and seemingly mindlessness of the Dodgers who in the end stole the land against the real life fond memories of the members of the community that was destroyed by them.

Kaufman turns to music to express the differences between the life that used to reside on the now harsh and capitalistic land. He uses a book by Don Normark to expose the harsh realities of the city officials that served these injustices to the communities by using testimonies given by members of the community.

Another article by Ronald W. Lopez expresses the conditional patriotism and resistance from the community members during the process of being removed from their homes. This article will serve as both pathos and ethos for my argument that shows more in depth the feelings on the side of the community members in order to fully assess what steps towards making amends could be taken.

  1. I like how your first reviewed source incorporates a relation to music for the impacted people. I think that any one of the arts are great ways to provide emotional support in an argument.
