Potential Topic for Health Disparities

Disparities in the healthcare system are extremely overlooked by the majority and not much serious change is being put forward to try and change any issues associated with healthcare. Minority groups in particular are affected by these disparities including the LGBT+ community, women of color, low income, and homeless people across the U.S. I want to focus on a more specific group that is intersectional. For example trans women of color, depending on what helpful research I can find.

I will research how lack of healthcare and related disparities have impacted the individual and group. Considering the long and intense history and lack of acceptance that is still being dealt with today, it makes sense how unfairly they are treated. Especially in healthcare, studies concerning specific groups have to be well funded and really pushed in order to be researched and studied. Not many people in the medical field root for the minority groups, including lgbt people for legal reasons of the past and present as well as personal ‘moral’ biases. I’m looking forward to writing about and discussing potential solutions to these issues in my paper.

  1. I really like how you are including the intersectionality between the individual, and the overall group. When it comes to healthcare, many situations end up hindering this group, but it's the individual scenarios that truly show how awful the disparities really are. Being denied certain prescription medicine is just one example that can really hinder one's life.

  2. I think that picking an intersectional group like trans woman color is a good topic. I also really appreciate the chart that you included.
